Jason Lavallee, Administrator for the Skilled Nursing and the Rehabilitation Center at Liberty Commons, builds on two generations of experience and tradition.

A native Cape Codder, Jason’s grandmother began working at Broad Reach in the earliest days, 1986, serving as its director of nursing and later executive director of the assisted living residence across the street from Liberty Commons before her retirement in the early 2000s.

“My dad started at Liberty Commons in 1991 as a social worker,” Jason recalls, “and became administrator in 1994,” leaving Chatham in 1999, ultimately landing at a health care facility in Centerville. That was where Jason got his first job as a 14-year-old Dennis-Yarmouth High School student, washing dishes.

Both Jason’s grandmother and father worked closely with Broad Reach’s owner Bill Bogdanovich, and in 2017, when Jason was a junior in college, he took a summer internship shadowing Bill. After Jason graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2018 and began training to apply for his nursing home administrator’s license, Bogdanovich served as his mentor, known as a “preceptor” – the same key role he played for Jason’s dad years earlier.

Lavallee’s first full-time job out of college was with a skilled nursing facility in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston. “I learned so much,” he recalls; the company promoted Jason to run their Braintree facility in 2021.

“Throughout, I stayed in contact with Bill,” says Jason. “He always knew that one day, I wanted to get back to the Cape.”

The two got together for lunch in the fall of 2021, and Bill was direct: “‘What would it take to get you back to the Cape?’” Jason remembers him asking. It was a question Jason hadn’t expected to come this quickly:

“I’ve always set goals for myself, three years, five years, 10 years, and I aspired to get back to the Cape more like in three to five years. This was two years along.”

With the role of executive director (also called administrator) on the table, Jason didn’t hesitate. “To be able to come back to this building, where my family has done so much, that’s a very special thing,” he says.

His role is broad, responsible for Liberty Commons’ employees and its day-to-day operations. “My first priority is that we offer the best care possible,” he says. “At the end of the day, whether someone is with us for a short time or longer term, this is their home and that’s what matters most.”

Speaking of home, since coming to Liberty Commons, Jason‘s bought his first house, in Yarmouthport. A native Cape Codder has returned.
