In March, International Women's Day reminds us to reflect on the achievements of women. In healthcare, we are fortunate to have always been strengthened by the selfless contributions women have made. In long-term care, that's no more evident than in the work of our Directors of Nursing. Looking back over our 35+ year history, the particular accomplishments of Ann Lavallee and Marcia Matsik stand out,

Ann was Liberty Commons' first Director of Nursing back in 1986, serving the organization in various other roles including the opening of The Victorian Assisted Living Residence through her retirement in 2009. Though she's now passed, Ann's presence is still felt there every day!

Marcia followed Ann and was Liberty Commons' longest-serving Director of Nursing. She joined us in 1989, stepping into the DON's role in 1997. Now a "retired" DON, she continues that tradition of caring service, leading up the Wellness Nurse Program at The Victorian.
